Sam Houston's stay at the Southland Bowling League Championship came to an end on Saturday morning, falling to SFA in an elimination match.
The Bearkats, seeded No. 2 in the tournament, split the opening two games against the Ladyjacks, before falling 4-0 in the deciding best-of-seven match.
“This was a disappointing tournament for us,” said head coach Brad Hagen. “With the short turnaround from the Vanderbilt tournament I thought we might come out and have a little better showing. We just didn't have enough consistency with our shot making.”
In the opening game against SFA, the Jacks won the traditional match 986-952. The Kats bounced back in the baker total pinfall match, edging SFA 1,003-987. But SFA took all four games in the best-of-seven match to close out the victory.
Janine Kuwahara was one of six bowlers selected to the All-Tournament team.
The Kats, who are ranked fourth in the nation, finish the tournament 1-2 overall. They will now have to wait until the NCAA selection show on Wednesday to learn if the season will continue. The selection committee will take the top 8 teams in the country to compete for the national championship April 13-15 in Baton Rouge, La.
