HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston State Bearkats will get another shot at No. 6 Texas A&M on Wednesday when the Kats host the Aggies at the Bearkat Softball Complex.
Wednesday's game against the nationally-ranked Aggies will be aired on the ESPN3 online platform and on the WatchESPN app. Each game can be followed via Statbroadcast or by following @BearkatsSB on Twitter.
The Bearkats showed strong against Texas A&M in their first meeting, falling 2-0 on Feb. 15 in College Station. Senior Tayler Atkinson pitched well that evening, holding Texas A&M off the scoreboard until the sixth when the Aggies were able to mount a two-out rally to edge the Kats.
The Aggies would go on to win their first 15 games of the season before dropping their lone game this year to Houston on March 1. They rebounded over the weekend with two wins apiece over UTSA and Georgetown at the Texas A&M Invite.
Meanwhile, the Kats have heated up offensively, hitting .363 as a team and averaging nearly seven runs per game in six games last week. That included freshman Megan McDonald's big week that saw her go 10-for-18 (.556) with eight RBI and half of her hits going for extra bases. Tori Koerselman continues to be consistent at the top of the Bearkat order and ranks in the top five in the league in batting average (.404), hits (23), runs scored (17) and stolen bases (8).
SERIES vs TEXAS A&M
This will be the 109th meeting between the Bearkats and Aggies with Texas A&M holding a 95-13 advantage in the all-time series. Sam Houston will be going for its first win over the Aggies since the 1995 season.
