Kats continue pace at Friday's Texas Relays

AUSTIN – Sam Houston State track and field continued to shine on Friday, helping put on a show as part of the excitement that was the third day of the 2017 Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
With 17,470 in attendance and the best conferences across the country in competition, the Bearkats captured four top-15 finishers including a seventh-place result in the men's distance medley relay.
The DMR relay team of Jeffrey Moore, Ethan Woods, Evan Arambula and Chris Speaks posted a seventh-place finisher and time of 10:03.81. The women's squad of Camry Grigsby, Kodii Church, Jamie Eckford and Nicole Aponte ran 11:56.30 and secured 11th.
In the women's triple jump, Tristyn Allen continued her breakout sophomore campaign, capturing 11th with a leap of 40 feet, 9 ½ inches. Meanwhile, in the women's 100-meter hurdles, Baylee Lara captured 27th with a time of 13.99.
In the men's javelin throw, Anthony Garcia took home 13th with a toss of 196 feet, 8 inches.
William Stark saw strong success in the 110-meter dash, securing 23rd with a time of 14.62, just .05 seconds off his personal best. The senior was followed closely behind by teammate freshman Fabian McCall, who took 27th with a personal record of 14.71.
The women's 4x400-meter relay squad of Baylee Lara, Kodii Church, Aaliyah Lane and Jordan Grady captured 19th with a time of 3:47.42.
The men also secured 19th as the tandem of Zachary Gaskin, Eric Pouncy, Lawrence Coleman and Ethan Woods ran 3:13.60, a mark that ranks just outside the top-50 nationally.
Melicha Smith took 61st in the 100-meter dash and more importantly, captured a personal best with a time of 12.00. The sophomore was followed by Moesha Straughter in 87th with a time of 12:30. For the men, freshman Kyler Scott took home 67th (10.75) with his best time through three competitions.
