Bowlers ranked 4th in latest poll

The Sam Houston State bowling team will enter next week's NCAA Championships as the fourth-ranked team in the country. The Kats, who are also seeded fourth in the event saw no change in their position from the March poll.
The Kats were ranked in the top 5 of the National Tenpins Coaches Association poll all season for the first time in program history. They posted an overall record of 76-26 which is the highest regular season winning percentage with at least 100 matches.
“Staying in the top five all season is just a testament to the consistency of this team,” said head coach Brad Hagen. “Even when we had some rough spots, we never got to low and were always able to respond the next day and limit the damage.”
The Bearkats won a program best four tournaments this season and were ranked as high as No. 2 in the polls. The team complete game average of 194.5 is the second highest in team history.
This year, four different bowlers were named to all-tournament teams with Janine Kuwahara and Heather Penatzer earning a team-best three recognitions. Madysen Keller was recognized twice and Stephanie Zavala once.
The NCAA Women's Bowling championships will get started on April 13 at the Raising Cane's River Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
