Kats selected for NCAA Bowling Championships

The Sam Houston State bowlers are making a habit of this. On Wednesday afternoon the Bearkats were one of 10 teams selected to compete at the NCAA championships.
The Kats received one of four at-large bids under the new selection format that now awards six automatic selections. It is the seventh trip to the NCAA Championships in the eighth year of the program.
The Kats earned the No. 5 seed and will take on No. 4 Vanderbilt in the opening round on April 12 at Tropicana Lanes in St. Louis, Mo.
“With the next selection format we knew all year long there wasn't going to be much wiggle room,” said head coach Brad Hagen. “We knew we were going to be right on the line and knew we had to continue to put up big marks. I think the runner up finish in the Music City to close out the regular season was big for us.”
With a different selection format, there will also be a new completive format for the championships. Teams are seeded and placed into the bracket, with two spots being determined after the completion of the opening-round matches. The championship bracket will be a double-elimination, with each round consisting of a best-of-three match that includes the use of three team game formats- baker total pin fall, five-person team match and a best-of-seven baker match play. The champion will be determined using a best-of-seven baker match play.
The championship matches will be played April 12-14 at Tropicana Lanes in St. Louis, Missouri. The University of Central Missouri and the St. Louis Sports Commission are the hosts.
The championship final will air at 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time, Saturday, April 14 on ESPNU and at 7 p.m. Eastern time, Sunday, April 15 on ESPN2.
