Bowlers lead after first day

The Bearkat bowlers opened the season with a big first day at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Invitational hosted by Tulane.
The Kats were a perfect 5-0 on the day including a win over No. 2 SFA in the second match of the day. They also sit on top of the standings on total pinfall.
They will take a 95 pin lead over Vanderbilt into Saturday's action, which will include 5 more matches.
“Obviously I happy with the way we came out and bowled today,” said head coach Brad Hagen. “I thought we did a good job of making adjustments throughout the day and should give us some confidence tomorrow. Saturday is where you put yourself in position to win a tournament so we have to come out with that mentality.”
The Kats had to come from behind to beat Tusculum before their 61-pin win over SFA. They then closed out the day with wins over Texas Southern, Jackson State and Southern University.
They will open up play on Saturday taking on UAB. They will face Vanderbilt in the fourth match of the day.
