3 Kats earn All-SLC soccer honors

FRISCO - Sam Houston State landed three players on the All-Southland Conference soccer teams, league officials announced Monday morning.
Juniors Sammi Mayock and Briana Woodall and freshman Kalynn Bickford were all selected to the third team after leading the Beakats back to the Southland Conference Tournament, which will be held in Conway, Arkansas this week. Sam Houston State (7-10-1 overall, 5-5-1 in SLC) will face second-seeded Northwestern State in the first match of the tournament Wednesday at 11 a.m.
Bickford, a true freshman, is one of several newcomers who have had a huge hand in SHSU's turnaround this season. She has played in all nine SLC matches and has scored five goals, which leads the team, on nine shots on goal and has one assist.
Three of Bickford's goals were match winners against UCA, McNeese and Nicholls and that is tied for seventh in the league.
Forward Sammi Mayock has provided a spark to the SHSU attack this season. Her three goals in SLC action have all been equalizers and changed the outcome of the matches. In the only SLC match she has not started, except the two matches she missed due to injury, Mayock came off the bench to tie the match with a goal in a 3-2 OT victory over UCA in the SLC opener which helped set the tone for SHSU's turnaround season.
Mayock scored in the 79th minute in a double overtime 1-1 tie with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and tied the match against McNeese in a 3-2 win in Lake Charles. She is second on the team with four goals this season.
Woodall has also been crucial in the Bearkats' offensive turnaround this season. She has started every game in SLC play and has one goal and one assist. Her lone goal was the game winner on a free kick in a 2-1 victory over HBU, and she also drew the foul.
Woodall drew the foul that resulted in a penalty kick goal that lifted SHSU past UCA in overtime in the conference opener. She has 14 total shots in league play with six on goal and her relentless attack has helped set up scoring opportunities for her teammates.
