HUNTSVILLE – Sam Houston State notched three players to the preseason all-Southland Conference teams, per an announcement on Tuesday by league officials.
The Bearkats, who open up the 2019 season on February 15th in DeLand, Fla., at the Rycass Classic, had one player, outfielder Hunter Hearn, named to the first team.
Two Sam Houston players were selected among the 12-member second-team preseason honorees including outfielder Clayton Harp and pitcher Hayden Wesneski.

Hearn was named to the first team after being named to the all-SLC third team at the end of 2018. The senior from Crosby finished second on the team in RBI with 39 and second on the team in home runs with nine. He also posted a .294 average, slugged .482 and picked up 19 multi-hit games and 11 multi-RBI games.

Harp, a native from El Campo, is one of the top returning hitters in the SLC and led the Bearkats with 13 stolen bases a year ago. His .323 batting average is tops among Bearkat returners, and he also finished with five homers and 29 RBI while playing all three outfield spots.

Rounding out the awards is right-handed pitcher Hayden Wesneski from Cypress. The junior was named to the third team all-SLC at the end of 2018 after earning freshman all-America honors in 2017. He finished the season with a 7-3 record and a 3.50 ERA, striking out 67 and walking 30.
The Bearkats return 21 players for the 2019 season and will be facing a difficult non-conference schedule. Of the 17 non-conference opponents, 13 were ranked in the RIP top 100 in 2018, including eight in the top 50 – three of which advanced to last season's College World Series in Omaha.
