After another 4-1 day at the Music City Classic the Sam Houston bowlers will enter the final day of competition as the No. 8 seed in the bracket play.
The Kats opened the day with a win against St. Francis (PA) before falling to Monmouth. The Kats bounced back though, knocking off Howard, Youngstown and Mount Aloysius College. They are 8-2 in the tournament.
“We were able to attack the lanes a lot more confidently and efficiently today according to the intel we got from yesterday,” said head coach Brad Hagen. “The info and change of equipment definitely helped.”
The Bearkats entered the day in 13th place, and were able to climb into the top 8. They will have a chance for a 5th-place finish in the 29 team event and notch another 10 win weekend.
“We have an opportunity in match play to get to our goal but no one is going to give us anything,” Hagen said. “We need to step up with confidence, take the positives from Saturday, and put it all together. We have everything to gain.”
Bea Hernandez was the top bowler for the Kats on Saturday with a 216 average, including a high game of 243. She finished the day as the No. 11 ranked bowler in the field of 172 individuals.
The Bearkats will open up bracket play on Sunday against Monmouth.
