EGG HARBOR, N.J. -- It was a big day for Hayley Connelly as the Bearkat sophomore had the biggest single day of her career rolling a 220 average in five games to help lead the Bearkats to a 4-1 day.
Connelly's 220 average was the best of the day and a six-pin average better than the second-best bowler in the tournament.
“Her confidence and ball reaction for her first shot was solid,” said head coach Brad Hagen. “She was seeing the right ball motion and whenever you see that it helps with the confidence instantly.”
Connelly posted all five games with scores in the 200's with a high of 243.
As a team, the Kats posted the best record through the first two days of the tournament and will enter the bracket play on Sunday as the No. 2 overall seed. They will face top seeded Vanderbilt.
All four wins on Saturday were against ranked opponents, including a pair of top 10 wins against No. 6 Maryland Eastern Shore and No. 8 FDU.
“This has been a great start to the weekend,” Hagen said. “We knew we needed to position ourselves for Sunday's bracket round, but at the same time, we needed to come out and get wins against quality opponents and that is what we have done.”
Bea Hernandez also had a good day for the Kats, finishing with a 206 average to place No. 6 overall. She also had a high game of 243. Madysen Keller turned in a top 20 finish as well, with a 195 average, good for 14thbest.
