Kats fall to Ragin' Cajuns in 2OT

HUNTSVILLE - The Sam Houston State women's soccer team gave Louisiana all it could handle for 101 minutes, but the Ragin' Cajuns scored a golden goal in double overtime to defeat the Bearkats 2-1 at Pritchett Field Sunday.

It marked the second time this season Sam Houston State (1-4-0) lost 2-1 in overtime at home. Gonzaga snatched a victory from the Bearkats by scoring with one second left in overtime on Aug. 25.

Louisiana (3-2-1) took a 1-0 lead when Karleen Bedre assisted a goal by Una Einarsdottir, who scored on a volley with her right foot in the lower-left corner of the net in the 10^th minute.

Sam Houston State got the equalizer in the 68^th minute. Freshman Kenzie Arrington drilled the ball from the top of the box over the outstretched hands of Ragin' Cajun goalkeeper Mackenzie Lee off an assist from junior Courtney Pawlik. It was Arrington's first goal of the season.

The two teams continued to play stellar defense the rest of regulation to force overtime.

The Bearkats had two shots on goal in the first overtime, but could not sneak anything past Lee. Louisiana failed to mount much offense with one shot that sophomore goalkeeper Abby DeLozier saved, one of her six saves on the day.

The Ragin' Cajuns were able to score the game-winning goal when Lee fired a kick downfield that Bedre received and headed into the net over DeLozier's hands in the 102nd minute.

The Bearkats hit the road for a two-match swing this week. Sam Houston plays UIC in Chicago Thursday, then returns to Texas for a contest at Prairie View A&M Sept. 15.
