The second half of the season kicks off of Friday for the bowling program as the Bearkats will head to the Northeast Invitational hosted by LIU and Sacred Heart.
Â
The Kats are looking to build off their strong fall where they finished the slate ranked No. 2 in the country in the NTCA top 25 poll.
Â
"It has been a long break for us so you are always worried about there being a little rust," said Brad Hagen. "This is a good field though and we know we are going to get tested. We just have to continue to bowl the way we have been and build on everything we have done to this point."
Â
The tournament is one of the largest of the season, with 26 teams participating in the event, including 6 of the top 10 teams in the nation. In all, 15 ranked teams will be participating in the tournament.Â
Â
The Bearkats will open the tournament on Friday with five game baker matches against LIU and will also face No. 23 Monmouth, Molloy, No. 24 Wilmington and Chestnut Hill. On Saturday they will bowl tradition game matches against No. 7 North Carolina A&T, St. Francis Brooklyn, No. 17 Fairleigh Dickinson, No. 21 Adelphi and No. 19 Sacred Heart. Sunday's bracket play will be best-of-seven baker matches.
Â
This will be the first of six tournaments prior to the Southland Bowling League Championship on March 20. It also marks the first of three straight weekends of competition for the Kats. They will be In Missouri next week and then in Arlington the following weekend.Â
Â
"We are going to get tested early, we know that," Hagen said. "How we handle this stretch will say a lot about the team we have. A strong start to the second half will go a long way to positioning us to where we need to be at the end of the year when the selection committee is putting the championship field together."Â
