Sunday at the Northeast Invitational, the Sam Houston Bearkats posted a 2-1 record and took third place in the opening event of spring semester.
The Bearkats entered the day as the No. 3 seed and opened the day against No. 19 Sacred Heart. After taking the opening game, the Kats had to rally from 2-1 down to take the best-of-7 match in six.
In the semifinals against Vanderbilt, they held a 2-1 lead before falling in six games, setting up a rematch against Sacred Heart. The two teams traded win through the first four games, before the Kats took games 5 and 6 to claim third place.
For the weekend, No. 2 ranked Sam Houston posted a 10-3 overall record with wins over six ranked opponents.
"We go in to every tournament wanting to position ourselves to win and get to double digit wins," said head coach
Brad Hagen. "We were able to do both which is big for us. Coming off a break you never know what to expect, so I was proud of the way they come out and battled all three days."
They will be back in action next weekend for the Columbia 300 Saints Invite in Missouri.
