CHESTERFIELD, Mo. – Sam Houston posted a 2-1 record on the final day of the Columbia 300 Saints Invite hosted by Maryville University to take fifth-place in the 19-team event.
The Bearkats finished the three-day event with a 9-3 record.
"Any time you can finish the day with a win is always good," said head coach
Brad Hagen. "This 3 week stretch is a true test of grit and we need to continue to grow individually and as a team."
The Kats, who entered the bracket play as the No. 5 seed opened the day with a win against the hosts, Maryville, jumping up 2-0 before taking win the best-of-7 series 4-2. After a loss to Wisconsin-Whitewater, the Kats faced a rematch against Maryville. The second time around, the Kats had to rally from a 2-1 deficit to take the fifth-place match 4-2.
The Kats will be in action Friday at the ITRC in Arlington for the PVU Invitational. It will conclude a stretch of three tournaments in three weekends.
