HUNTSVILLE — The Sam Houston State tennis team pushed its winning streak to three dual matches with a 5-2 victory over Louisiana Tech Saturday at the McAdams Tennis Center.
Â
The Bearkats (4-1) captured the doubles point to grab the quick advantage.
Â
The No. 2 team of Sahaja Yamalapalli and Emma Goedkoop defeated Claudia Oravcova and Ana Jover 6-2, then the No. 1 duo of Roos Gerritsen and Lusine Chobanyan knocked off Nadja Manjon and Alexia Romero 6-2 to seal it.
Â
"I was very satisfied with our doubles today as number 1 and 2 lines came out strong and dominated start to finish," head coach Rob Hubbard said. "That really helps set the tone for the singles."
Â
Yamalapalli and Goedkoop once again won their singles matches to remain perfect at 5-0 this season. Yamalapalli defeated Manjon 6-0, 6-4 in No. 1 play, and Goedkoop topped Romero 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4.
Â
Chobanyan (4-1) defeated Ilana Tetruashvili 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (6) in No. 3 action, and Petra Kaszas (1-0) stepped into the No. 6 spot to defeat Rikona Murakami 6-2, 6-4.
Â
Dena Nicolaou fell to Jover 7-5, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, and Gerritsen lost at No. 5 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (9).
Â
"Overall, I was happy with the singles play today too, though, we had a couple hiccups along the way," Hubbard said. "We did a very good job compensating not having two of our starters in the lineup. The depth of our roster really was very apparent today."Â
