Golfers lead the All-American

HOUSTON - Three Kats shot under par and the Bearkat men's golf team is in the lead after the first day at the All-American Intercollegiate at Golf Club of Houston.

The Kats shot a 277 as a team and lead No. 8 ranked Wake Forest and Louisiana by a stroke in a 13-team field that includes three ranked teams.

Ting-Wei Hsieh led the way for the Bearkats, shooting a bogey free 5-under 67 on Sunday afternoon. He opened his day with a birdie to get off to a good start. After birdies on Nos. 6 and 7, he made the turn at 3-under. He then birdied Nos. 12 and 15 on his back nine and sits in second place overall in the 81-player field.

Two other Kats check in near the top of the leader board with Jack Randle and Grayson Blunt both shooting a 3-under 69 and they are tied for sixth. Blunt recorded six birdies on the day and Randle had five.

Noah Steele shot an even par 72 and sits in a tie for 19^th and William Holcomb is 2-over for the day. Luis Carrera, playing as an individual in this tournament shot a 68 and stands in fourth place.

Round two will continue Monday morning and the tournament will conclude on Tuesday.
