Kats to compete at SLC indoor championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Sam Houston State men's and women's track and field teams are set to compete at the 2020 Southland Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship when it kicks off Sunday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

Day one events will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the 60-meter hurdles portion of the pentathlon event and conclude at 7 p.m. with the men's distance medley relay.

Sam Houston State has captured the men's team title in each of the past four years and will look to secure the top spot once again. The Bearkats' 2019 indoor championship came on 104 points, beating second-place finisher Southeastern Louisiana by a 19-point margin.

The 60-meter dash portion of the heptathlon is slated to begin Sunday morning at 8:50 a.m., immediately following the conclusion of the pentathlon's 60-meter hurdles. The Southland Championships will then continue on a rolling schedule throughout Sunday's competition.

Monday's action opens at 9 a.m. with the heptathlon's 60-meter hurdles and pole vault events. Finals portions of the field events will follow, beginning at 10 a.m. with the women's shot put.

Day two running events open up with the women's 60-meter hurdles at 11 a.m. and conclude with the men's 4x400-meter relay at 2:40 p.m.

All awards will be presented at the conclusion of each event's final.

The 2020 Southland Indoor Track & Field Championships will be streamed on the Southland Digital Network, which can be found on the Championship Central page.

For athletes that achieve qualifying marks or have done so throughout the indoor season, the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships will be hosted at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M., March 14-15.
