Box Score HUNTSVILLE — The Sam Houston State tennis team dropped a close match 4-3 to North Texas at the McAdams Tennis Center Tuesday afternoon.
The Bearkats (4-2) and Mean Green (5-0) each won three singles matches, but North Texas took the doubles point which proved to be the deciding factor.
Junior
Sahaja Yamalapalli improved to 5-0 on the season in No. 1 singles action. She defeated Alexandra Heczey 6-3, 6-1.
Sophomore
Isidora Zivkovic returned to the singles lineup to defeat Nidhi Surapaneni 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 2 spot, and Dena Nicolaou topped Hala Khaled Badwy 6-4, 7-6 at No. 3.
Senior
Lusine Chobanyan fell to Maria Ponomareva in No. 4 singles 6-0, 6-2, while freshman
Emma Goedkoop lost her first singles match of the season to Kexuan Zhou 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5. In No. 6 singles, UNT's Sophia Hummel defeated
Petra Kaszas 7-5, 7-6.
Heczey and Badwy defeated
Roos Gerritsen and Chobanyan 6-3 in No. 1 doubles, and Surapaneni and Ponomareva topped Yamalapalli and Goedkoop 6-2 at No. 2.
The Bearkats hit the road Friday to play SMU in Dallas at 4 p.m.
