The Bearkat Bowlers continue to post strong tournament results, taking second this week at the Hawk Flight Invite.
After knocking off No. 4 Vanderbilt for the second time this weekend in the opening round of bracket play, the Kats fell in the championship match to Duquesne. Sam Houston finished the tournament with a 10-2 record, including six wins against top-25 competition.
Katelyn Dickerson finished as the top individual for the Bearkats with a 225 average.
Bea Hernandez finished 11
th and
Hayley Connelly was 12
th. Hernandez bowled a team-high game of 267 and averaged 213 over six games. Connelly had a high game of 234 and also finished with a 213 average.
The Kats opened the day with a win over Wilmington to qualify for the Bracket round as the No. 2 seed. In the match against Vanderbilt, the Kats got in a 2-1 hole the in best-of-7 match, before taking the next three games to win it 4-2.
In the finals, the Kats took a 3-2 lead after five games, but dropped a close on in game six, falling 238-235. In the decisive game 7, Duquesne once again edged out the Kats 245-237.
Sam Houston will be back in action next week for the final tournament of the regular season, when they head to Vanderbilt for the Music City Invitational.
