Kats land five on bowling academic honor roll

The Bearkat bowling squad placed five members of this year's team on the Southland Bowling League Academic Honor Roll.

Bea Hernandez, Natasya Rafie, Syasya Ismail, Elise Chambers and Katelyn Dickerson were among 46 student-athletes across the league's eight institutions to be recognized.

Hernandez, a sophomore from Manila, Philippines, posted a 3.94 GPA in international business. This is the third honor this season for Hernandez who was previously named All-American and All-Southland.

Rafie finished her first year at Sam Houston with a 3.72 GPA. The freshman from Gadong, Brunei, is majoring in graphic design.

Ismail holds a 3.45 GPA through three years at Sam Houston. The junior from Sembawang, Singapore is a Criminal Justice major.

Chambers, a sophomore from Ocoee, Fla., posted a 3.29 GPA as a general business major. This is also Chambers' third recognition of the year. She was previously named All-American and All-Southland.

Dickerson will graduate from Sam Houston with a degree in accounting. The senior from Painesville, Ohio, posted a 3.18 GPA.

The SBL Academic Honor Roll was put into place during the 2018-19 school year and is currently in its second season of recognition. All nominees for the Southland Bowling League's Academic Honor Roll team must have earned at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale and demonstrated athletics achievement for at least one year at the nominating institution.
