Yamalapalli named SLC Player of the Week

FRISCO — Sam Houston junior Sahaja Yamalapalli has been named the Southland Conference women's tennis Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

Yamalapalli swept both of her matches at No. 1 singles Sunday as the Bearkats opened the season with a pair of dual match wins over Prairie View A&M Sunday. She also teamed with Isidora Zivkovic to win at No. 1 doubles in the second match.

Yamalapalli, who was the SLC Player of the Year in 2019, defeated Prairie View's Victoria Fuenmayor Castillo 6-1, 6-0 in the opener and 6-0, 6-1 in the second match. Yamalapalli and Zivkovic topped Castillo and Mahogani Green 6-3 to win the No. 1 doubles match.
