Bowlers finish fourth at PVU Invite

ARLINGTON – After a 1-2 record on Sunday, the Sam Houston bowling team took fourth place at the PVU Invitational on Sunday afternoon.

The Bearkats opened the day with a win over Youngstown State, knocking off the Penguins in four games. They then fell to eventual tournament champions McKendree in the semifinals, dropping a back-and-fourth match that went the full seven games.

In the third place match, Nebraska took out the Kats in five games.

"We didn't bowl our best this weekend, but I was still proud that we fought and got ourselves in the championship bracket," said head coach Brad Hagen. "Just a few mistakes here and there cost us a chance to get a win."

Denise Blankenze finished fifth overall and was named to the all-tournament team after posting a 212 average on Saturday.

For the weekend, Sam Houston recorded a 5-8 record with wins over Arkansas State and Louisiana Tech on Saturday and Nebraska and Texas Southern on Friday.
