Bowlers post perfect 5-0 day at Tulane

Harahan, La. – Brad Hagen couldn't have asked for a better start to Day 1 of the Colonial Lanes Classic. The Bearkats posted a 5-0 record and hold a 169 pin lead over the hosts from Tulane.

The Bearkats topped 1,000 pins in all five matches. Colonial Lanes is the same site as last season's Southland Bowling League Championship, and Hagen thinks that helped.

"Familiarity of our environment especially helped today and we really tried to focus on and reflect on our notes from the SBL Conference Championships," he said. "Our biggest obstacles we're staying ahead of the transition and paying attention to what the lane was telling us as well as what it had to give us."

The Kats notched wins over Jackson State, UMES, Florida A&M, Texas Southern and Alabama State. Their best showing was against FAMU with a 1,099 total pinfall, winning the match by 315 pins.

Over the five matches, they posted an average of 209.

Action will continue on Saturday as the Kats looking to solidify one of the top four spots to qualify for the championship bracket in Sunday's best-of-7 matches.
