HARAHAN, La. – The Bearkats capped off the opening tournament of the season with a third-place finish at the Colonial Lanes Classic hosted by Tulane.
The Bearkats entered Sunday undefeated on the weekend and earned the No. 1 seed in the championship bracket. But they dropped matches to North Carolina A&T and La Tech, before knocking off SFA for third place.
"It was just one of those days where we made the other team show up and they did," said head coach Brad Hagen. "When we're all playing the same parts of the lane it's essential to stay ahead of the transition and we did but a shot or two too late and it can cost you."
The Kats finish the weekend with an 11-2 record.
In the opening match loss to NCA&T, the Kats topped 240 three times, losing two of those games, including a 275-260 defeat. They eventually fell in six games, having scored better than 200 in all six.
The second round loss to La Tech was just as close. The Kats held a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 match, falling in game 6 257-248 and then 204-187 in the final game.
Against SFA, the Kats opened with a monster game of 279 and then took game two by just 4 pins. A win in game four by SFA only delayed the victory for the Bearkats, as they responded with a 248-183 win to take the match.
Elise Chambers was named to the All-Tournament squad with a 222 average in five games on Saturday.
The Kats will be back in action on Nov. 5-7 for the Track Kat Klash at Emerald Bowl in Houston.
