XC teams perform well at WAC Championships

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — The Sam Houston men finished sixth and the women ninth at the 2021 Western Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships Saturday morning at the UC Riverside Agricultural Operations course.
Christian Rivera was the men's top finisher, placing 16th in the 8k run with a time of 24:27.8. Andrew Bosquez was 27th with a time of 24:50.5.
Kyan Wallace was 39th with a time of 25:16.8, Austin Zirkel placed 45th with a time of 25:22.9, Eduardo Gutierrez was 65 at 26:02.4, Colton Stunkard was 71st at 26:18.8, Elijah McWilliams was 76th with a time of 26:35.8 and Mario Ruiz was 95th with a time of 28:08.3.
California Baptist won the men's championship followed by Utah Valley, Grand Canyon, Lamar, Dixie State, SHSU, Abilene Christian, New Mexico State, Stephen F. Austin, UTRGV, Tarleton, Seattle University and Chicago State.
Cryslan Tucker paced the women with a 29th-place finish on the 6k course with a time of 21:41.6 just ahead of Rebeca Gonzalez who placed 32nd with a mark of 21:52.2.
Sandy Clarkin placed 53rd with a time of 22:42.4 and right behind her in 54th place with a time of 22:43.7 was Haley Thomas at 22:43.7. Haley Garza placed 83rd with a mark of 24:49.1 and Ellie Galan was 87th at 25:05.5.
Utah Valley won the women's championship ahead of CBU, ACU, New Mexico State, Dixie State, Seattle, Grand Canyon, SFA, Sam Houston, Lamar, UTRGV, Tarleton and Chicago State.
