Kats post perfect mark on Day 1 of Kat Klash

HOUSTON – The Bearkats put together a 5-0 record on the first day of competition of the TRACK Kat Klash held at Emerald Bowl in Houston.

They currently stand in third place overall, trailing North Carolina A&T and Nebraska.

"We had a solid start overall," said head coach Brad Hagen. "With this pattern your crosses are key and committing to the right zone is a premium for as long as possible."

The Kats posted a pair of games where they topped 1,000 pins in wins against Delaware State and Prairie View A&M.  They also notched victories against Alabama A&M, Alabama State and Texas Southern.

The Kats will bowl five more games on Saturday as they look to close a 185 pin gap between their score and NCA&T. The Kats were one of three team to average better than 200 for the five games, posting a 201.4.

"Even though we didn't bowl here last season, we have some veterans on this team who have been here before," Hagen said. "Saturday is the day to make your moves, and I think we are set up well to do that."

The top four teams after Saturday will qualify for the championship bracket of the best-of-7 bracket play. Â
