Kats unveil 2022 schedule

HUNTSVILLE – Sam Houston head baseball coach Jay Sirianni officially unveiled the 2022 schedule on Thursday, the Bearkats' first season in the WAC.

The balanced, 54-game schedule, features 28 games at Don Sanders Stadium and neutral-site games at both Globe Life Field and Constellation Field.

Season tickets for the 2022 campaign are currently on sale and can be purchased online at GoBearkats.com or by calling the Bearkat Ticket Office at 936-294-1729.

The Kats will have to hit the ground running with four perennial baseball powers making up the first nine games of the year, starting with a 4-game, season-opening series with defending Big 10 champion Nebraska that begins on February 18.

Sam Houston will then spend a week in the DFW Metroplex with a neutral-site game vs Oklahoma State at Globe Life field, the home of the Texas Rangers, on February 22 before taking on Dallas Baptist in a 3-game set at Horner Ballpark.

The Kats then get a big game at Don Sanders Stadium on March 1 when they welcome the Texas Longhorns and former head coach David Pierce to Huntsville. It will be just the second time Texas has ever come to Huntsville, the first time coming in 2017.

Sam Houston will close out its slate of non-conference weekends at home, March 4-6, against Texas Southern and then begins WAC play the following weekend with a 3-game series against Tarleton.

It will be a round-robin format during WAC play, different than what the program dealt with during its years in the Southland. The Kats will take part in the WAC Southwest Division and will play 3-game series at home and on the road with Tarleton, Lamar, Stephen F. Austin, UTRGV and Abilene Christian over the course of the season's final three months.

In addition to the Kats' league slate, Sam Houston also has its plate full with a challenging set of midweek games that includes home-and-home midweeks with Baylor and Rice, in addition to the return of the Don Sanders Cup series against Houston. The Kats and Cougars will open up that series on March 22 in Huntsville before returning the trip to Houston on April 5 and concluding it with a May 10 game at Constellation Field.

Sam Houston will also host Texas State on March 29 and UTSA on April 13, while traveling to McNeese on April 18 and Texas A&M on April 26.
