Kats are new No.1 in NTCA poll

A hot start to the season has been recognized by the bowling coaches across the country. Friday, the Sam Houston bowling team was ranked No. 1 by the National Tenpins Coaches Association.

The Kats received 37 of the 53 first-place votes jump from their No. 6 ranking in the preseason poll. McKendree stayed at No. 2 while previous No. 1 Nebraska fell to No. 6.

"I have been really proud with the way we have come out and played so far this season," said Head coach Brad Hagen. "I think the biggest key for us is getting off to a good start each tournament. We have had some really strong Friday's and have just been about to build off that momentum."

Through the first three tournament of the season, the Bearkats have posted a 33-5 record, recording a tournament victory at the Hawk Classic. The Kats also took second at the Kat Klash and finished third in the season opening event at the Colonial Lanes.

They are also the No. 1 ranked team in the recently released RPI and lead the nation in scoring average at 209.

The Bearkats have been ranked in the top 25 in every poll since the program started competing in 2010. They have been ranked in the top 10 in every poll since the Feb 21, 2011.
