Leah Alberto wins first collegiate title

CORPUS CHRISTI - Leah Alberto won the first title of her collegiate career on Tuesday, taking top honors at the Islander Invitational.

Alberto (1-over, 217) shot a final round 71 to win the event by one stroke. She was the only golfer in the field to shoot under par in the tournament shooting a pair of 1-under rounds.

The team also claimed the tournament title, winning by three strokes over the host Islanders. The Kats were wire-to-wire winners leading the tournament at the end of each round.

The Kats had three golfers finish in the top four of the individual standings with Hanna Alberto taking third at 5-over and Jennifer Herbst was fourth at 9-over. Viera Permata Rosada finished 12th at 15-over and Anna Takahashi was 21st with a 20-over score for the tournament.

Leah Alberto had two birdies on the day, carding them on back-to-back holes. After a bogey on No. 16, she finished with three straight pars to hold off Luz Martinez Rico from Texas A&M Corpus Christi who birdied two of her final four holes to close the gap to one shot.
