Men’s hoops lands A&M grad transfer

HUNTSVILLE — Head coach Jason Hooten and the Sam Houston men's basketball team have made another addition to their squad for the 2021-22 season, bringing in graduate transfer Savion Flagg from Texas A&M.

The Alvin product averaged 8.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists this past season. In four seasons with the Aggies, he averaged 9.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists.

The guard/forward led A&M in scoring as a sophomore at 13.9 points per game and rebounding at 7.7 and earned SEC Player of the Week honors. He also was selected as SEC Freshman of the Week during the 2017-18 season.

Flagg was a high school standout at Alvin for head coach John Oliverio. As a senior, he averaged 31.3 points per game, 11.1 rebounds and 5.9 assists on his way to earning Class 6A All-State honors from the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. He was a four-star recruit and was ranked as the fourth-best prospect in Texas by ESPN.
