Kats sit in 2nd at Southland Championship

McKINNEY – After the first round of play at the Southland Conference Men's Golf Championship, the Bearkats sit in second place.Â

The Kats, shot 8-over as a team and trail Lamar by 10 shots heading into Tuesday's second round.Â
Â
William Holcomb had the low round of the day for the Bearkats, shooting a 1-over round of 73. He's six shots off the top of the leader board.Â
Â
Two other golfers are in the top 7, as Ting-Wei Hsieh and Paul Chaplet each shot a 74. Jack Randle and Luis Carrera both shot 75 on Monday and are sitting in a tie for 12th.Â

The Bearkats got off to a good start on the day. On the first nine holes, they combined for seven birdies and six bogeys or worse. Carrera and Randle each carded an eagle as well.Â

The team's struggles came on the back 9 where they combined for 18 bogeys and just four birdies.Â
Â
Day two will once again be 18 holes with the tournament concluding with 18 more holes on Wednesday. The Bearkats are seeking their third straight league crown.Â
