FRISCO — Sam Houston had two student-athletes named to the Southland Conference all-academic teams, league officials announced Tuesday.
Senior
Megan McDonald was selected to the first team, and freshman
Ellie Grill was tabbed to the second team.
McDonald, who was the 2020 Southland Conference Student-Athlete of the Year, a three-time all-academic team honoree. She is getting her master's degree in public administration and made the President's and Dean's lists in the fall with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
McDonald set the school record in career games played this season. She was a first-team all-conference selection this season and had a perfect fielding percentage while batting .341 in league play.
Grill is majoring in education and made the President's and Dean's lists in the fall. She was second on the team with a .277 batting average and tied for second with 17 RBIs.
Grill led Sam Houston with 16 stolen bases in 17 attempts. She had seven extra base hits with five doubles, two triples and one home run.
The all-academic teams are voted on by head coaches, sports information directors and academic/compliance staff members from each Southland Conference institution. Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year at the nominating institution to qualify for all-academic selection and have competed in at least 50 percent of their team's contests on the season, excluding pitchers.
