Tennis signs another top ITF junior player

HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston tennis coach Rob Hubbard has added another promising recruit for the 2021-22 season.

Coming off the program's first NCAA Division I conference championship season, the Bearkats have signed Emma Stauber of Essen, Germany. She has achieved a LK 1 Rating in Germany, and her UTR has been as high as 9.7.

She has been training and competing out of the Rafa Nadal Tennis Academy the past five years with significant wins over highly rated and ranked opponents.Â

"Emma is another ITF world ranked junior who comes to us from one of the top training academies in the world, the Rafa Nadel Tennis Academy, where she has been residing the past five years," Hubbard said. "She is well prepared to step into the collegiate scene and will have an impact right away with our tennis program. Emma has a passion for the game that will be exciting to see displayed in our new tennis center, the Chuck and Wanda Beckner Tennis Center."

In her last ITF Junior tournament, Stauber defeated a player in the top 400 in the ITF World Junior Rankings. In doubles competition, she has reached the finals, the semifinals twice and the quarterfinals four times in ITF World Junior tournaments.

"I chose Sam Houston because after several conversations with Coach Hubbard, and several other student-athletes, I felt that we share a common passion for the sport," Stauber said. "I believe that Sam is the perfect fit for me. After living at the Rafa Nadal Academy the past five years, I am ready to start my new chapter in Texas. I am very excited and proud to be part of the team."
