Kats lead after first day at K-State

MANHATTAN, Kan. – In his first tournament as a Bearkat, newcomer Chad Sewell fired a 69 on Monday afternoon to help lead Sam Houston to the top of the leaderboard after the first day of the K-State Wildcat Invitational.

As a team, the Bearkats are 8-over par and lead Kansas City by a stroke. They are three shots up on Kansas State and Creighton heading into Tuesday's final round.

Sewell, who shot the low score of Round 2, is sitting at 3-under for the tournament and is in second place, three shots back of the lead.

Grayson Blunt is even par for the tournament and is sitting in sixth overall, six shots back.

After an opening round 72, Sewell used an eagle on No. 10 to help him to his second round 69.

It was a big turnaround for the senior transfer from UTSA as he got his day off to a rough start. After seven holes he was 4-over, but a 4-under back nine got him back in contention and he used that momentum to climb eight spots on the leaderboard in Round 2.

Blunt used back-to-back birdies on the back nine Monday afternoon to get him back to even par for the tournament.

Bret Gray is in a tie for 18th after shooting rounds of 74 and 75. Ting-Wei Hsieh is tied for 30^th after shooting 75, 77 and Tristan Renaud is tied for 43rd after a 73, 81 day.

Jack Randle, who is playing as an individual, is in 37th following rounds of 73 and 80.
