Kats receiving votes in WGCA poll

A record breaking tournament has the women's golf team getting some national recognition.

The Bearkats received votes this week in the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) poll. They received four points in the voting.

It's just the second time in program history the Bearkats have received votes in the WGCA poll.

The Bearkats are coming off a 19 shot victory in the USA Intercollegiate, hosted by South Alabama. As a team they were 31-under par, breaking the school record by 33 strokes. Also, Zulaikah Nasser took home the individual title, also putting her name in the SHSU record book. Her 54-hole score of 201 tied the mark set by Hanna Alberto last season at the Texas State Invitational. It was the first title in Nasser's Bearkat career.

Nasser and Jennifer Herbst also equaled the low round record, shooting a 66, which had been done twice previously.

The Bearkats will be back in action this week when they head to the Marilyn Smith Sunflower Invitational hosted by Kansas State.
