Tennis begins fall season at Islander Open

HUNTSVILLE — The Sam Houston tennis team kicks off the fall 2021 season this weekend with a road trip to Corpus Christi to take part in the Islander Open.

The Bearkats will compete Friday through Sunday at the Henry Tennis Center.

Sam Houston will travel to Beaumont to participate in the WAC/Southland Conference Dual Mock on Sept. 24-26. There will be a brief pause in action before the Bearkats play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regionals in Fort Worth Oct. 14-17.
Sam Houston wraps up the fall schedule at home when it hosts the Bearkat Invitational Oct. 30-31.

Sam Houston won its first Division I conference championship this past spring. The Bearkats went 15-4 in their final dual match season in the Southland Conference.

The Kats are now part of the Western Athletic Conference and look to continue their success with several players back from last season's title run including Sunskrithi Damera, Roos Gerritsen, Petra Kaszas, Sahithi Vutukuru and Isidora Zivkovic. Sam Houston is also receiving a boost from former standout Lusine Chobanyan who is returning to the team for her final year of eligibility and newcomers Megan Basson and Emma Stauber.
