HUNTSVILLE — A second-half goal lifted New Mexico State past the Sam Houston women's soccer team in a 1-0 loss at Pritchett Field on Saturday.
The Bearkats (3-9-2 overall, 2-6-1 in WAC) had some opportunities to tie the match but could not get anything past the Aggies, who improved to (8-4-3, 5-2-2) to remain in contention for the WAC regular season championship.
Both teams came close to scoring but the match remained deadlocked for 58 minutes until NM State finally broke the scoreless tie. Loma McNeese was able to get a shot past Sam Houston goalkeeper
Tatum Krueger for her eighth goal of the season.
The Bearkats took four shots on goal and 11 shots overall. Krueger finished the match with six saves.
Sam Houston will hit the road to finish out the regular season next in two weeks and try to lock down a spot in the WAC Tournament. The Kats face California Baptist on Oct. 27 at 9 p.m. and Grand Canyon on Oct. 29 at 8 p.m.
