Women's golf in 3rd at Kansas tourney

LAWRENCE, Kansas — The Sam Houston women's golf team is in third place following the first round of the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational hosted by Kansas on Monday.
The Bearkats turned in a 12-over 300 on the par-72, 6,125-yard course at the Lawrence Country Club. Kent State is leading the event at 1-over 289 followed by the Bearkats and Minnesota, Nebraska and Kansas (304), Arizona (308), Wisconsin (309), BYU and Norte Dame (317), Washington State, New Mexico State and Tulane (320), Boston College (324), UTSA (327) and Iowa (328).
Jenn David is tied for second place after shooting a 1-under 71. She had an eagle on the 12th hole and birdies on 16, 17, 1 and 2 in the first round.
Leah Alberto is tied for 10th at 2-over 74 and Viera Permata Rosada is tied for 20th at 5-over 77. Jennifer Herbst is tied for 27th at 6-over 78, and Zulaikah Nasser is tied for 33rd with a 7-over 79.
