Bowling in fourth at Kat Klash

HOUSTON — The Sam Houston bowling team got off to a hot start to move into the top five at the TRACK Kat Klash at Emerald Bowl on Friday.

The Bearkats are currently in fourth place with 5,115 total pins after going 2-3 in the baker matches. Maryville sits in first at 5,322, top-ranked McKendree is second (5,266), North Carolina A&T is third (5,182) and Delaware State (5,062) rounds out the top five behind the Kats in the 20-team field.

Sam Houston came out firing in the first two matches with a 1,090-815 win over Upper Iowa and a 1,231-991 victory over the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. The Bearkats closed day one with loses to Maryville, McKendree and UAB.
"Highs and lows today," head coach Brand Hagen said. "Highlight of the day was setting a new five-game baker set school record and shooting a massive 1,231. A 246.20 average for five baker games.Â

"The lows were indicative of just not fulfilling the routine items and fundamentally being sounder. Even with a loss they're a lot easier to swallow when we do our jobs holistically. Practices have been well, but we need to see it transfer into competition. Time to regroup and reset for tomorrow."

The teams will play traditional competition Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the top four in total pins advancing to the championship round on Sunday at Emerald Bowl.
