TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The Sam Houston women's basketball team rallied in the second half to knock off Florida A&M 70-62 on Saturday.
The Bearkats (3-4) trailed by four at the half but got rolling in the third quarter. Sam Houston outscored the Rattlers (1-6) 26-17 in the period.
Down 44-39, the Kats responded with an 9-2 run to take their first lead at 48-46 thanks to baskets by
Madelyn Batista,
Chyna Allen,
Mikayla Woods and a three-point play by Sydney Kemp. SHSU end the third up 59-54 when Batista knocked down a couple of free throws and
Kaylee Jefferson hit one.
The Bearkats extended their lead to 66-58 on a layup by Jefferson and a 3-pointer by Allen with just under seven minutes to go in the game. Florida A&M could only get as close as six in the final 10 minutes as Sam Houston sealed the win at the free throw line.
Allen led the way with 18 points, and Jefferson just missed a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.
Tierney Coleman chipped in 11 points and Batista finished with 10.
Sam Houston continues its three-game road trip against Texas Tech in Lubbock on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m.
