HUNTSVLLIE — The Sam Houston softball team could not overcome an early eight-run deficit in a 13-6 loss to Texas A&M on Wednesday evening at Bearkat Softball Complex.
The Aggies (6-0) scored eight runs in the first inning and three more in the second to take an 11-0 lead before the Bearkats (1-4) got on the board.
Sam Houston scored five runs in the third to cut the lead to 6 when
Brodie Quinlan led off the frame with a single and moved to second when
Sheridan Fisher reached on a fielder's choice.
Kyndal Kutac walked to load the bases and Quinlan and Fisher scored on a pair of errors on when everyone was safe on a fielder's choice by
Kylie Hobbs.
Hannah Scheaffer, who was 3 for 3, hit an RBI single to center field, and Hobbs came around to later score on a wild pitch.
Sam Houston's other run came in the bottom of the seventh when Scheaffer, who was hit by a pitch, scored on a ground out by
Haleigh Carter.
The Bearkats will play in the Louisiana Tech Invitational Saturday and Sunday in Ruston, Louisiana.
