LAKE CHARLES, La. — Freshman
Brailey Wasik had her break-out performance in the circle and at the plate to lead the Sam Houston softball team to a 1-0 victory over McNeese on Thursday.
Wasik allowed just one hit in seven innings to earn the win. She also had the game-winning single in the fifth as the Bearkats improved to 4-6 on the season.
The game was a pitching duel for most of the evening. Wasik and Ashley Vallejo both didn't allow a hit through four innings.
Sam Houston finally broke through in the fifth to take a 1-0 lead.
Hannah Scheaffer reached on a one-out error and moved into scoring position when
Emily Telg drew a two-out walk. That's when Wasik helped her own cause with an RBI single through the left side.
The Cowgirls finally got a hit in the seventh, but Wasik was able to close it out.
The Bearkats will play Manhatten Friday at 2:30 p.m. and UNLV at 4:45 at the McNeese Invitational.
