LAKE CHARLES, La. — Sheridan Fisher hit a walk-off single in the ninth inning and
Regan Dunn went the distance in the circle as Sam Houston topped Manhattan 3-2 on Friday at the McNeese Invitational.
The Bearkats (5-7) dropped the nightcap to UNLV 7-0 in large part due to a six-run sixth inning.
After Dunn kept the Jaspers off the board in the top of the ninth in the first game,
Haleigh Carter singled to move
Emily Telg into scoring position. Both runners advanced on a ground out then came around to score when Fisher singled to center field for the game winner.
Dunn (1-1) struck out seven hitters in nine innings to earn her first win of the season.
Sam Houston struck first in the first inning when
Brodie Quinlan, who had the Kats' only hit in the loss to UNLV, led off with a single and stole second base. She came in to score on a RBI double by
Brailey Wasik.
The other run came in the third. Fisher singled and advanced to second on a throwing error. She also scored on a fielding error to make it 2-0.
The Bearkats close the McNeese Invitational with a game against UTA at 10 a.m. Saturday and a matchup with UNLV at 12:15 p.m.
