Herbst finishes 7th at Long Beach State

SEAL BEACH, Calif. – In one of the toughest fields of the season, Jennifer Herbst posted a top 10 finish and the Sam Houston women's golf team took 7^th place at The Gold Rush hosted by Long Beach State on Tuesday.

Herbst shot a team low round of 73 on Tuesday and finished 6-over for the tournament and seventh place in the individual standings. The field including two teams and seven individuals ranked by GolfStat.

The Bearkats as a team had their best round of the tournament, shooting a 305 and moving up one spot on the final day, finishing 7^th in the 12-team field. No. 14 ranked USC won the event by 36 strokes over No. 15 UCLA.

After an opening round 318 on Monday, the Kats improved by 8 shots in their second round of the day, shooting a 310. They then improved again by five shots in Tuesday's final round.

Zulaikah Nasser also recorded a top 20 finish for the Kats, shooting 11-over for the tournament and finishing in a tie for 16^th. Leah Alberto finished the tournament tied for 45^th, Viera Permata Rosada was 62^nd and Anna Takahashi was 64^th.

The Bearkats will be back in action on March 7 for the UNF Collegiate in Jacksonville, Fla.
