STEPHENVILLE — Tarleton got a walk-off hit batter in the bottom of the seventh of game two to sweep a doubleheader against the Sam Houston softball team on Saturday.
The Bearkats (9-14 overall, 3-2 WAC) lost the first game 8-2 then dropped the nightcap 4-3.
Sam Houston struck first in game two to take an early 2-0 lead.
Kylie Hobbs ripped an RBI double in the first inning, and
Elia Hebel lifted a solo home run out to left field in the second.
Mika Vento (4-5) made one mistake in the circle when she allowed a three-run home run to the Texans (16-6, 2-0) in the bottom of the third. She was able to get out of a jam with two runners on in the sixth by striking out three straight hitters.
That setup a clutch at-bat by pinch hitter
Brailey Wasik in the top of the seventh. She came to the plate with two outs then blasted a game-tying home run to left center field to keep Sam Houston alive.
Tarleton loaded the bases with a walk, an error and a sharply hit infield single in the bottom of the seventh before scoring the game winner on a hit by pitch with one out.
The Bearkats' two runs in game one came on a RBI single in the second inning by Hebel and a RBI triple in the seventh off the bat of
Emily Telg.
The final of the three-game conference series will be Sunday at noon.
