STEPHENVILLE — The Sam Houston softball team jumped out to a four-run lead but could not hold on in an 8-7 loss to Tarleton in the finale of a three-game WAC series on Sunday.
The Bearkats (9-14, 3-3) trailed 7-4 heading into the seventh when
Elia Hebel and
Brailey Wasik walked to bring the tying run to the plate.
Jordan Peno singled to load the bases then
Kylie Hobbs doubled to center field to tie the game.
The Texans got a solo home run with one out in the bottom of the seventh to walk it off for the second straight game in the series.
Sam Houston took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Hebel hit a two-run home run down the left field line with two outs.
Emily Telg added an RBI double to left in the second.
Emily Telg made it 3-0 with a sacrifice fly in the third, but Tarleton used a six-run bottom half of the frame to take the lead.
The Bearkats will travel to College Station on Tuesday to take on Texas A&M at 6 p.m.
