COLLEGE STATION — Sam Houston pulled within three runs in the sixth inning but could not get any closer in a 6-2 loss to Texas A&M on Tuesday at the Aggie Softball Complex.
The Bearkats (9-15) trailed 5-0 heading into the sixth after the Aggies (16-8) scored a pair of runs in the first and one in the second, third and fourth innings.
Emily Telg drew a lead-off walk to begin the top of the sixth and
Kyndal Kutac hit a one-out single.
Brodie Quinlan hit into a fielder's choice that moved Telg to third then stole second to give Sam Houston two runners in scoring position.
Elia Hebel then ripped a two-run single into right field to cut the lead to 5-2. It extended Hebel's hit streak to nine consecutive games.
Texas A&M was able to get a run back in the bottom of the frame, and the Kats failed to capitalize on a lead-off double by
Ellie Grill and another walk by Telg in the seventh to seal the victory.
Sam Houston will take part in the Hall of Fame Classic in Oklahoma City on Friday and Saturday.
