Bearkats share lead at Bayou City Collegiate

MONTGOMERY – With three players in the top 10, the Sam Houston men's golf team shares the lead at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic.

The 16-team field battled windy conditions in the morning during the opening 18 holes at Walden on Lake Conroe. The Kats posted the second best team score of the opening round with a 299. They improved by 11 stokes in the afternoon as conditions calmed down.

Heading into Tuesday's final round, the Kats are tied at the top of the leader board at 11-over with Florida Atlantic and one shot ahead of Abilene Christian.

Josh German is one of six gofers who are even or better after the opening 36 holes. The freshman from Mabank opened the day with the third-best round of the morning, shooting a 71. He followed that up with a 73 and is tied for 5^th.

Bret Gray and Ting-Wei Hsieh are in a tie for 8^th place, sitting at 2-over for the tournament. Gray shot a second round 70, to climb 18 spots on the leader board after a 76 to start the day. Hsieh was steady all day, recording a pair of 73s.

Chad Sewell and Grayson Blunt both had the biggest improvement for the Bearkats from the first round to the second. Blunt bounced back from and opening round 80 to shoot 72 the second time around the course. Sewell opened his day with a 79, following it up with a 73. They are both 8-over for the tournament and in a tie for 44^th place.

The Kats had three individuals participating with all three checking in with top 20 performances. Jack Randle and Gene Chaikangwal each shot a 4-over after 36 hales and are tied for 18^th place. Nathan Weber posted one of the low rounds of the tournament, closing the day with a 69 to finish the day at 5-over and in a tied for 20^th.

The final round will get started Tuesday morning.
