STEPHENVILLE — The Sam Houston tennis team nearly swept singles play to post a 5-2 victory over Abilene Christian at Tarleton's Potishman-Lard Tennis Courts on Sunday.
The Bearkats (8-9 overall, 2-2 WAC) bounced back after losing the doubles point to win five of the six singles matches against the Wildcats (8-10, 2-3).
Petra Kaszas tied the match at 1 by defeating Ileana Mocciola 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. After ACU retook the lead with a win at No. 3 singles,
Lusine Chobanyan tied it again by topping Andrea Guerrero 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4.
Megan Basson gave Sam Houston the lead for good with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Maryjoe Crisologo at No. 1 singles.
Sunskrithi Damera outlasted Paula Garrote 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 at the No. 6 spot, and
Andjela Vidovic put the finishing touches on the victory with a 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 7-5 win against Allison Stewart at No. 2 singles.
The Bearkats wrap up the regular season at Stephen F. Austin on Saturday at 1 p.m. The WAC Tournament will be held April 21-23 in Beaumont.
