HUNTSVILLE — The Sam Houston softball team dropped the Western Athletic Conference series finale 3-1 to Stephen F. Austin on Saturday at Bearkat Softball Complex.
The Bearkats (12-38 overall, 5-16 in WAC) had just as many hits as the Ladyjacks, five, but the difference was a two-run home run in the first inning.
Sam Houston's lone run came in the fifth inning when
Elia Hebel blasted a pinch-hit solo home run over the wall in straight up center field. The Bearkats did get a two-out double from
Hannah Scheaffer in the seventh, but the Ladyjacks were able to get out of the frame with a strikeout.
SFA added an insurance run in the third on a sacrifice bunt.
Seniors
Sheridan Fisher and
Kyndal Kutac were honored before the game. Both players had a hit in their final regular season home game at the Bearkat Softball Complex.
Mika Vento pitched five scoreless innings in relief of starter
Christine Billmeier. Vento finished with five strikeouts.
